The School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) at the University of Cape Coast has achieved a historic milestone with the inauguration of the Eye and Vision Research Centre (EVRC) and the official launch of the Vision Science Africa Exchange (ViSAX-25).
The School of Optometry and Vision Science is delighted to announce the promotion of Professor Stephen Ocansey, Dean of the School of Optometry, from the rank of Associate Professor to Full Professor.
This achievement reflects his sustained excellence in teaching, impactful research, academic leadership, and dedicated mentorship. As Dean, Professor Ocansey has played a pivotal role in advancing optometric education, strengthening research capacity, and promoting professional training that meets both national and global standards.
The School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has been awarded a $25,000 grant to implement the Optometric Service and Community Outreach for Practical Experience (Opto-SCOPE) project. This initiative is generously funded by Optometry Giving Sight.
Dr Naa Adjeley Addo, a staff of Department of Vision Science SOVS, currently undertaking her PhD at the Hong Kong PolyU presented a poster at the recently held ARVO in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
The School of Optometry and Vision Science took part in the 57th Congregation Ceremony on the 11th December, 2024, a grand celebration marking the academic and professional achievements of its graduating class. The ceremony, held at UCC NEC auditorium brought together faculty, students, families, and dignitaries to honor the hard work and dedication of the graduates.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to exceptional students who distinguished themselves in various fields of academic and professional excellence.
A 3-Days training program for newly recruited lecturers in SAHS was held on the 17th October 2023 at SAHS Meeting Room 1, CAALTC. The program was facilitated by Centre for Teaching Support, UCC.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences held a day workshop for its preceptors on the 1st of July, 2021 at CoDE Seminar room 2. Lecturers, some SoPPS staffs and participants from different health sectors were present. The workshop was chaired by the Dean of SoPPS (Prof Elvis Ameyaw).
